Asian Groups Unite Behind FCC Plan
WASHINGTON -- In response to the FCC's recent announcement on net neutrality, the Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies (APAICS), Japanese American Citizens League (JACL), Leadership Education for Asian Pacifics, Inc. (LEAP), and National Korean American Service & Education Consortium (NAKASEC) have issued the following statement:
The APAICS, JACL, LEAP, and NAKASEC commend the Federal Communications Commission for its recent net neutrality announcement, which based on our understanding, indicates that the agency will move forward with a compromise solution for securing the open internet in the public interest. The regulatory certainty of a net neutrality proposal built upon general consensus and compromise will assure the future of broadband and allow for the proliferation of new technologies and advancements in broadband.
Empowering Asian Americans with the tools necessary to successfully engage and compete in this society is at the heart of our organizations and it is why we are encouraged by the Commission's efforts to resolve the net neutrality debate. We anticipate that a resolution to net neutrality will further broadband investment and facilitate equitable and fair access to critical resources such as education, healthcare and job opportunities that universal broadband brings to our communities. Given that one-third of Americans are not online, this announcement is laudable step toward advancing the future of universal broadband access and adoption.
