Black Caucus Elects Carson As Whip

WASHINGTON  – Indiana Congressman André Carson was elected to serve as the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) Whip for the 112th Congress.

The whip helps to develop political strategy, secure votes and gather and distribute policy information between CBC members.

“It is an honor to be selected to serve as the CBC Whip for the upcoming Congress,” said Congressman Carson. “The 111th Congress has proven to be one of the most productive in decades, and the CBC was at the forefront leading the way. I want to thank outgoing Chairwoman Lee and the rest of the leadership team for staying true to the CBC’s legacy, acting as the conscience of the Congress and advancing an agenda of change.

“Through their guidance, we saw increased support for education, job training and small business opportunities. We were able to help stabilize neighborhoods by preventing foreclosures and creating jobs through funding for community redevelopment. These policies have helped bring our economy out of recession and fuel our ongoing recovery.

“I look forward to working with Chairman Cleaver and the rest of the leaders of the CBC to uphold the tradition of strong leadership and commitment to an agenda that will not only improve the lives of African Americans, but all Americans.”
