'Brother to Brother’ Supports Men In Fort Valley State U Community

Mr. FVSU 2009-2010 Edward Carroll to co-host the “Brother to Brother” forum Monday, Jan.25, 2010.

Uplifting men when it comes to relationships, academics, the workplace and in communities is the focus of an upcoming event.  Hosted by Mr. FVSU 2009-2010 Edward Carroll and FVSU’s Student Government Association President Jared Tolbert, young leaders will discuss the challenges facing men in college called, “Brother to Brother: State of Emergency, Plight of the Male Student on Campus”. The male-only event will be held 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25 in the W.W.E. CTM Building auditorium.

During the forum, attendees will have the opportunity to share how to overcome personal and professional challenges. Young brothers will also receive tips about improving communications with the opposite gender, how to maintain academic focus in school and ways to reduce violence.

According to Sammie Haynes, advisor to Mr. FVSU, Tolbert and Carroll collaborated on the event to help provide answers to the most frequently asked questions their counterparts grapple with at college.

“It is vital for the male student body to unite and support each other’s vision for success in higher education. It’s important for students to realize that they’re not alone on the journey to success,” said Haynes.  “Male support is all around them.”

Refreshments will be served following the event.  For more information, contact Haynes at (478) 825-6329.
