Congress Ponders Puerto Rico's Status

New York, NY – Congresswoman Nydia M. Velázquez (D-NY) released the following statement regarding the passage of H.R. 2499, legislation relating to Puerto Rico’s political status, and the bill’s amendment on the floor of the House:

“This was a bill that was stacked against the people of Puerto Rico from the start. Thankfully, by adding the Commonwealth option back on the ballot today we restored some fairness to a badly flawed process. However, I still believe that the best way for the people of Puerto Rico to determine status is through a constitutional convention.”
