Chairwoman Barbara Lee Statement on White House Fiscal Summit

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Contact: J. Jioni Palmer

Washington D.C. – Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA), Chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus released the following statement today after participating in the White House Fiscal Summit:

“Today’s fiscal summit presented a sober assessment of the financial mess the previous administration left in its wake.

“There is no question the fiscal problems facing our country are significant and daunting, and will require a lot of hard work on the part of all of us.

“One of the first and most important steps we can take toward fiscal responsibility would be to get our economy back on track and Americans back to work.

“While President Obama and Congress will have to consider every option on the table, the only workable solution must be fair and balanced. An inequitable solution will not work and it will not win public support.

“We must consider everything including revenue, spending and the efficiency of different programs. We must resist the temptation to balance the budget on the backs of the most vulnerable Americans, doing so would be particularly cruel in today’s economic climate.”
