Tomorrow's Leaders Share Experiences, Ideas and Vision for the World
WASHINGTON, -- The Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, Inc. (CBCF) will present its popular Emerging Leaders Series (ELS) during its 39th Annual Legislative Conference (ALC) September 23-26, at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. This series of panel discussions and networking opportunities is expected to draw more than 1,000 participants.
The series, geared to the 18- to 40-year-old demographic, will offer multiple sessions connecting the nation's powerbrokers with emerging professionals to discuss strategies for community and personal development throughout the conference. Other sessions will address paying for college in a recession, taking advantage of a "trickle up" economy, and mental wellness strategies from nationally-renowned authors.
"Today's young adults face a set of economic challenges rivaling those of The Great Depression," said Elsie L. Scott, Ph.D., president and chief executive officer of CBCF. "The Emerging Leaders Series aims to give young professionals the tools to excel in today's world in spite of any challenges they face, be they economic, social or professional."
Additional ELS Highlights:
- The 2nd Annual Networking Brunch for Young Elected Officials and Policy Professionals will feature: (1) a facilitated discussion where participants will share strategies for civic engagement and for grooming X-Y generation political leaders; (2) arm participants with the knowledge and tools they need to strengthen communities through policy advocacy; and (3) networking activities to harness our power through unity. - Emerging Leaders Instant Apprentice Luncheon - Emerging leaders sit face-to-face with leading African Americans in all professions to discuss how to gain the competitive advantage in today's market, tap into one's entrepreneurial spirit, and enhance leadership skills by sharing lessons that have helped them become successful. During this high-energy event, participants will have access to powerbrokers by becoming their "instant apprentices." September 24 at 12:30 p.m. RSVP at conference registration is required.
- The Black Party Xperience 1 (BPX 1.0) is the first installment of a soulful fusion of music, art, culture, and performance. In honor of Reps. Yvette Clarke of New York and Chaka Fattah of Pennsylvania, co-chairs of the 2009 Annual Legislative Conference, BPX 1.0 will harness the urban style of Brooklyn, New York and the urban sound of Philadelphia. DJ battles, break dancers, air brush artists and a hip-hop documentary projected in the backdrop - experience the upgrade to BPX 1.0 on September 24 at 9:00 p.m.
