Congressman Hastings On President Obama’s Economic Plan

(Washington, DC) Congressman Alcee L. Hastings (D-Miramar), Co-Chairman of the Democratic Caucus’ Congressional Task Force on Job Creation, made the following statement on President Obama’s speech regarding job creation and economic growth at the Brookings Institution:

“It is one thing to simply say that high unemployment nationwide is unacceptable, and quite another to act on it.  I am emboldened by President Obama’s speech today, in which he offered real ideas that will put Americans back to work.  I look forward to working with the President and my colleagues in Congress to help turn these ideas into programs that will pull our country out of this recession and allow us to prosper once more.

“Despite recent positive indications about our economic recovery, unemployment remains high.  Millions of Americans are unable to find work, and I know that many of my constituents are struggling to make ends meet.  I am deeply committed to ensuring that all Americans can take advantage of our nation's opportunities.

“The hard work of the middle class and the creation of jobs in small businesses are the key to recovery, and it is in this aspect of our economy that we should focus our efforts.”

Congressman Alcee L. Hastings is Vice Chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, a senior member of the House Rules Committee, and Co-Chairman of the U.S. Helsinki Commission.
