Detroit Pastor Receives FBI Leadership Award

DETROIT  -- Rev. Dr. Wendell Anthony, President, Detroit Branch NAACP and Pastor, Fellowship Chapel received the 2010 Director's Community Leadership Award from the Detroit Division of the FBI today at the FBI's Detroit Office.

Rev. Anthony is receiving the award for his service as a community leader and his commitment to social justice and civil rights.

"It is an honor to be recognized for service to the community regarding my commitment to law enforcement and civil rights," says Rev. Anthony.  "Receiving awards such as this one is not just a tribute to me but it is also a tribute to the many community residents who work every day for a better city, better community and a better reflection of who our people really are.  I will continue to work very hard to develop youth leadership, responsible citizens and a positive cooperation between citizens who need justice and our local and national officials who administer justice.  I want to thank the FBI and others who have made this award possible."

Rev. Anthony has served as pastor of Fellowship Chapel for 24 years.  As pastor the church has continued to flourish and meet the needs of the people with its outreach ministry and their various programs ranging from tutoring to providing assistance to the homeless.  In addition to serving as pastor of Fellowship Chapel, Rev. Anthony is president of the Detroit Branch of the NAACP, the largest branch in the Association.  Rev. Anthony has served as president since 1993 and expanded the capacity and services provided by the Detroit Branch.  Rev. Anthony is also a member of numerous boards and councils that demonstrate his concern and tireless work ethic for the citizens of Detroit.

The Detroit Branch NAACP is the organization's largest branch.  It holds monthly meetings that are free and open to the public.
