For Immediate Release
May 1, 2009

Terry Glover Appointed Managing Editor of
EBONY Magazine
Adrienne Samuels Gibbs named Senior Editor; Margena A. Christian
named Senior Writer

CHICAGO – Veteran journalist Terry Glover has been appointed managing editor of the world’s No. 1 Black magazine. In her new role, she will be directly responsible for conceptualizing content with the editorial team as well as tracking the planning and execution of EBONY magazine.

“Terry has a strong journalistic commitment to take the brand forward with engaging stories and compelling photos,” said Anne Sempowski Ward, president and COO of Johnson Publishing Company, parent company of EBONY magazine. “She will help formulate our vision for EBONY to strengthen its position in the marketplace as a dynamic publication, which will help engage an even wider readership.”

Glover, who most recently held the post as EbonyJet.com’s senior online editor, has more than 15 years of experience in the publishing industry and has a B.A. in Communications from Northwestern University and a M.S. in Journalism from Roosevelt University. During her career, she has held numerous roles including managing editor at Savoy magazine, Chicago editor for Uptown magazine and digital editor for Playboy.com.

“I’m excited about the possibilities,” said Glover. “Eric Easter and I have spent the last two years working with the digital staff to build a phenomenal website. Taking that forward thinking to the publishing side is an amazing proposition. As the book continues to evolve, we have a great opportunity to expand the magazine and resonate with readers in an even more significant way.”

Adrienne Samuels Gibbs, who has a B.S. from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University, has most recently served as EBONY senior writer for nearly three years. Gibbs came to the magazine after serving in a number of roles for The Boston Globe, The St. Petersburg (Fla.) Times and The Miami Herald.

Gibbs earned a New York Times Impact Award for her work on a project that identified and told the personal stories of every person murdered in Boston in a particular year. She has also lectured/spoken at Roosevelt University, Columbia University, Northwestern University and the University of South Florida.

Margena A. Christian, who has penned numerous cover stories for JET during the past 14 years, has appeared on E! networks’ True Hollywood Stories (Hip-Hop Wives) and the networks’ Forbes Top Cash Kings of Hip Hop. Recently, she was featured on the Biography Channel’s profile of media mogul Tyler Perry. In addition, Dr. Michael Eric Dyson featured her in his book, Why I Love Black Women.

She has held numerous positions at JET where she ascended from assistant editor and associate editor to features editor. Christian holds a B.A. in Mass Communications and a certification in creative and professional writing from St. Louis University. She also has a M.Ed in Education from National-Louis University.
