Minority Corporate Counsel Association Elects New Board Member

  

            WashingtonD.C.-  The Minority Corporate Counsel Association, Inc., (MCCA) announces the addition of Susan Klooz, Senior Vice President and General Counsel, Legal Administration and External Relations at Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., to its Board of Directors.  Ms. Klooz was elected at MCCAÂ’s June Board meeting and will serve a three-year term.

            Klooz joined Wal-Mart in 1998 and has risen through the ranks to her current position.  As Senior Vice President and General Counsel, she is responsible for administration of the legal department and the team of attorneys that advises on sustainability, corporate affairs and government relations.  Klooz is also responsible for legal advice related to external relationships with NGOs, government officials, Wal-MartÂ’s advisory councils, and other third parties.  Prior to joining Wal-Mart, Ms. Klooz practiced with the Michigan law firm of Plunkett & Cooney, PC for nine years.

            Ã‚“Susan Klooz is widely recognized as a leader and a driving force behind Wal-Mart's highly successful diversity strategies and MCCA will benefit greatly from the perspectives she adds to our Board of Directors, “ said MCCAÂ’s Executive Director Veta T. The Minority Corporate Counsel Association advocates for the expanded hiring, promotion, and retention of minority attorneys in corporate legal departments and the law firms that serve them. MCCA furthers its mission by publishing research on achieving diversity and best practices in the legal profession, honoring innovative diversity programs with its Employer of Choice and Thomas L. Sager awards, and assisting diverse law students through the Lloyd M. Johnson, Jr. Scholarship Program. MCCAÂ’s work has been recognized with awards from the National Minority Business Council, Inc., the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the National Gay and Lesbian Law Association, and the Association of Corporate Counsel.
