The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) is hosting its 100th Annual Convention in New York City, NY on July 11- 16, 2009. The Convention is expecting more than 8,000 members, delegates and visitors to attend and participate in displaying the theme for the week “100 Years: Bold Dreams, Big Victories!”
Highlights of the convention will include speakers like 44th United States President Barack Obama, National Action Network President Reverend Al Sharpton, NAACP National Board of Director Chairman Julian Bond, Judge and TV Personality Greg Mathis, Center for African-American Studies at Princeton University Dr. Cornel West, and remarks from New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and New York Governor David A. Paterson.
Along with workshops and sessions on civil rights and social justice issues, activities throughout the week include focused voter education/registration projects, kick-off of the NAACP and National Bar Association’s two day Continuing Legal Education Seminar, youth debates, one movie screening, the Apollo Night Centennial Celebration at the Apollo Theatre, and a Commerce and Industry Show.
