National Latina Symposium Details Agenda

WASHINGTON,  -- LATINA Style, the premier magazine addressing the needs of professional Latinas in the U.S., will host the 6th annual National LATINA Symposium on Wednesday, September 9, 2009, at the J.W. Marriot Hotel in Washington D.C. from 7:30 am to 2:30 pm. The Symposium provides a national platform for Latina entrepreneurs and professional working women to address the status of the Hispanic woman in the United States.

The Honorable Loretta Sanchez (CA-47) is this year's Honorary Chair. Congresswoman Sanchez is a recognized leader on national security, intelligence, and counterterrorism issues. She also serves as the Vice Chair of the House Homeland Security Committee and Chair of the Subcommittee on Border, Maritime, and Global Counterterrorism. "This year's Symposium comes at an exciting time in history with the recent confirmation of our new Supreme Court Justice, the Honorable Sonia Sotomayor," said Congresswoman Sanchez. The Symposium will give Latinas from across the country the opportunity to share their stories of struggle and opportunity and provide the needed resources to continue to advance in the workplace. I am honored to serve as the Honorary Chairwoman of this event, which I hope will help give Hispanic women the tools they need to empower themselves and their families," the Congresswoman added.

The Symposium will feature three exciting panels: "Leadership Under Fire," led by the most successful Latinas in the military, will offer guidance and advice on leadership and self development. This is an opportunity for all branches to work together and build each other up. Learn how success and power can positively impact your community and inspire others. Followed by "Nurturing Latina Success." Rising to the top is a difficult balancing act. This is a can't-miss opportunity to learn how successful Latinas have made headway against the challenges and politics of corporate America. And culminating with "Your Health - Your Future." Here, industry experts will demystify healthcare reform. Heath issues continue to disproportionately impact many aspects of a Latina professional's life. We will address these in detail and provide a roadmap for a healthier lifestyle. These groundbreaking workshops will feature some of the most prominent Latina Leaders in the nation. The event is open to the public and media and attended by Latinas from corporate America, the government, and military.

The Symposium will conclude with the Distinguished Military Service Awards Luncheon, co-hosted with the Department of Defense. During the Distinguished Military Service Awards Luncheon, LATINA Style presents the only national awards program honoring Latinas serving in the Armed Forces. We are proud to honor ten Latina military members and Department of Defense (DoD) civilian employees who supported the DoD mission, the global war on terrorism, and demonstrated role model qualities and the core values of their respective Military Service and Agency.

The day will conclude with the LATINA Style flagship event, the  Anna Maria Arias  Memorial Business Fund Awards & Gala. This unique event, a tribute to the memory and vision of our founder  Anna Maria Arias , marks the 15th anniversary of LATINA Style Magazine, and will launch Washington's Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations. Our awards will provide senior executive education grants to selected Latina business owners from across the country that have distinguished themselves through their business success and their community involvement. The award recipients will be showcased during the Gala Awards Dinner taking place from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm in Washington, D.C. on September 9, 2009, at the J.W. Marriott located at 1331 Pennsylvania Ave., Washington, D.C. 2004.
