New "Wage And Hour Watch" Program To Target Roosevelt Avenue In Queens

Latino community members trained as "Wage and Hour Watchers" by the New York State Department of Labor will hit the streets this Saturday to let employers know "We Are Watching You!"

WHAT:
Community "Wage and Hour Watchers" will walk along Roosevelt Avenue and enter stores to speak to workers and employers about protections for workers under state labor law. Employers found to be in violation of the law will be promptly reported to the Department of Labor.  Roosevelt Avenue in Queens has one of the highest concentrations in New York City of businesses serving and employing immigrants. The New York State Department of Labor launched "Wage and Hour Watch" in April of this year, in partnership with community-based organizations and unions.  It is the first collaboration of this kind in the nation.

WHEN:      10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 23rd

WHERE:      Meet at Make the Road New York Office
92-10 Roosevelt Avenue, Elmhurst (Take #7 Train to 90 Street)

WHO:
Make the Road New York, Community Organization
                 "Wage and Hour Watchers"
