According to a study, black men are half as likely to die in prison than if they are free. The authors of the study, set to be published in the Annals of Epidemiology, claim that easier access to healthcare, protection from drugs and alcohol, and the ability to avoid deadly Black-on-Black violence leads to a longer lifespan for those who are incarcerated. African-American males are the only group for which these facts hold true, according to the authors of the study. Conference Touts Growth Of Charter Schools

According to data relesed by the National Alliance for Public Charter School (NAPCS), who recenlty celebrated its 11th annual conference in Atlanta, public charter school growth has risen by nearly 12% between 2009 and 2011. The data show public charter schools serve a higher percentage of non-white and urban students, with 63% of public charter schools being non-white, compared to 43% of that same population in conventional public schools.
