NEW YORK - The 4000 mostly minority tenants of the Diego Beekman Houses in New York’s South Bronx are receiving some good news today.

That news is taking the form of a new, low interest, 30-year mortgage for $19 miilion.

NYC Comptroller John Liu told reporters the funds came from the NYC Employee Retirement System and the Police Pension Fund.

The residents of the huge 38 building complex are being promised the new mortgage money will be earmarked to make improvements to the public housing project and keep operating costs down.
