BRUNNER AWARDED STEPHANIE TUBBS JONES AWARD
CLEVELAND – The northeast Ohio chapter of one of the nation’s leading progressive organizations of lawyers and jurists awarded Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner on Tuesday the first-ever Stephanie Tubbs Jones Public Service Award.
The Northeast Ohio Chapter of the American Constitution Society for Law and Policy presented Secretary Brunner the award during the chapter’s annual luncheon here.
Named for the late congresswoman from Ohio’s 11th Congressional District, the ACS’ Northeast Ohio chapter said the award is given to the person who best reflects the late congresswoman’s commitment to justice and her passion for the equal rights of all people.
The chapter said Secretary Brunner was selected unanimously by the chapter’s members.
Secretary Brunner, Ohio’s chief elections officer, was elected secretary of state in 2006. Brunner, a Columbus resident, is a former Franklin County trial judge and private attorney and served as legislative counsel to former Ohio Secretary of State Sherrod Brown. Brown is now a U.S. senator from Ohio.
The American Constitution Society for Law and Policy is one of the nation’s leading progressive legal organizations, made up of lawyers, judges, students and policy makers committed to promoting the vitality of the Constitution and the fundamental values it expresses.
