Chief Of Naval Operations Receives
Diversity Award
The Asian American Government Executives Network (AAGEN) hosted its 11th Annual Awards Banquet to honor Asian Pacific Americans who have made significant contributions to our great nation. The Distinguished Lifetime Achievement Award was awarded to the Honorable Senator Daniel Inouye for his heroic and distinguished service to the Nation. As a Medal of Honor winner and one of the most senior members of the US Senate, he is unquestionably an historic role model for all Americans. Past winners of this award include the Honorable Norman Mineta, Senator Daniel Akaka, General Eric Shinseki, and Congressman Mike Honda.
The Outstanding Public Service Award was awarded to Admiral Gary Roughhead for his exemplary leadership in promoting diversity in the most senior ranks of the US Navy. Admiral Roughhead is the Chief of Naval Operations and is one of only two officers to have commanded the fleets in both the Pacific and Atlantic. Past winners of the Outstanding Public Service Award include former Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao and Ms. Bing Bradshaw.
The Stan Suyat Memorial Leadership Award was awarded to Ellen Law for her long and dedicated service to the Asian Pacific American community and her selfless service to the AAGEN mission. Past winners of this award include the Honorable Maria Luisa M. Haley, Mr. William H. “Mo” Marumoto , Ms. Carol A. Bonosaro, Mrs. Belkis Leong-Hong, Dr. Sumiye Okubo, Dr. Carson Eoyang and Mrs. Kemay Eoyang, and Mr. Stuart Ishimaru.
AAGEN will also be announcing the 2010 AAGEN Scholarship Award winners to deserving students interested in public service at the Awards Banquet.
