PR Newswire

NEW YORK, Oct. 12, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The Single Parent Resource Center ("SPRC"), a not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping New York City's single parent families survive and thrive, will hold its annual Fall Fete at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at the Cosmopolitan Club, 122 East 66th Street, New York, New York.

Honorees for this event include Hello, Dolly!'s Donna Murphy who will receive SPRC's Public Education Recognition Award; the New York Junior League's Building Blocks committee which will receive SPRC's Volunteer Recognition Award; and the New York Council on Problem Gambling which will receive SPRC's Prevention Recognition Award.  All proceeds raised through this event will benefit the programs and services that The Single Parent Resource Center provides to New York City's single parent families.

"SPRC provides single parent families in New York City with real tools for survival. Many of our families grapple with the greatest of life's challenges, including poverty, homelessness, joblessness, substance abuse, gambling addictions, or incarceration of a parent," says Rosemarie E. Dackerman, Executive Director of SPRC. "For all of these families, SPRC provides pragmatic programs designed to strengthen family relationships, improve parenting skills, promote healthier lifestyles, and reduce abuse and neglect."

"Donna Murphy is a role model to single parents everywhere. A single mother herself, this two-time Tony Award winner is one of the most beloved and honored stage actresses of her time. Her versatility extends to the large and small screens, garnering her worldwide recognition as a gifted character actress and earning her a Daytime Emmy Award.  Ms. Murphy currently shares the iconic role of Dolly Gallagher Levi with the legendary Bette Midler in the Tony Award winning rival of Hello, Dolly!, for which she has received great critical acclaim," says Ms. Dackerman.

"Established in 2016, the New York Junior League's Building Blocks committee provides free "Mommy and Me" classes to families served by The Single Parent Resource Center.  Each session focuses on providing interactive play, dance, art, yoga and music so that new moms can bond with their babies in a safe and supportive environment.  Our families would not have these programs if it were not for the New York Junior League," explains Ms. Dackerman.

"For more than five years, The Single Parent Resource Center has partnered with the New York Council on Problem Gambling to provide vital services and public education programs that have increased the recognition, prevention and treatment of problem gambling for hundreds of thousands of youth, parents and families," says Ms. Dackerman.
