3rd Annual 26.2 with Donna Grosses $800,000

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. , March 12 /Businesswire/ - 26.2 with Donna, The National Marathon to Finish Breast Cancer has announced that the 2010 race raised over $800,000 with fundraising dollars still coming in. The race, held on February 21, drew more than 8,000 runners, representing every U.S. state and several countries.

“Fundraising in our race is not a requirement. So, in a year which was economically challenging for everyone, the fact that runners chose to raise more than 200 thousand dollars is impressive,” said Donna Deegan, founder of 26.2 with Donna. “It just speaks to the commitment to our cause.”

As fundraising continues through March 31st, a number on final proceeds cannot be determined yet., but all proceeds go straight to the cause.

All proceeds from the 26.2 with Donna are split between two non-profits. Seventy percent goes to the Mayo Clinic for bench top breast cancer research, with the remaining thirty percent going to The Donna Foundation to help breast cancer patients with their critical financial needs as they undergo treatment.

“We had more sponsors than ever before this year, which was great. Due to the economy, our overall sponsor dollars were less than in years past, but with the economy now on the move again, we’re even more optimistic about 2011,” said Deegan.

The fourth annual 26.2 with Donna will be held on February 13, 2011 at 7:30 a.m. in Jacksonville Beach.

About The Donna Foundation:

Three-time breast cancer survivor Donna Deegan launched the Donna Foundation in June of 2003. The Foundation is the only organization on the First Coast that raises money for underserved women with critical needs as they undergo treatment for breast cancer. Donna Foundation partners with Catholic Charities-Jacksonville Regional Office, the largest social service agency in the area, to administer these funds. Catholic Charities’ social workers lovingly screen each recipient to ensure the Foundation is a good steward of the donations received. Checks are then made payable to the mortgage company, the utilities carrier, the doctor’s office, etc. For more information about The Donna Foundation or 26.2 with Donna The National Marathon to Finish Breast Cancer, visit www.thedonnafoundation.org.
