SMILEYBOOKS INVITES RECIPE SUBMISSIONS FOR AMERICA I AM PASS IT DOWN COOKBOOK

Edited By "New York Times" Bestseller Chef Jeff Henderson

New York, NY (BlackNews.com) - SmileyBooks has launched a national call for recipe submissions for the America I AM Pass It Down Cookbook. It will feature 150 soul-filled recipes from food lovers across the country. The Pass It Down Cookbook, edited by award-winning chef Jeff Henderson, was inspired by America I AM: The African American Imprint, a four-year traveling museum exhibition that celebrates four centuries of African American culture. "What better way to showcase America's diverse traditions than through the unifying power of food," said SmileyBooks publisher Tavis Smiley.

The Pass It Down Cookbook will give good cooks an opportunity to share their favorite cherished family recipes with people across the country. Participants are invited to submit the recipe and a brief family food imprint story at www.PassItDownCookbook.com from now until August 31, 2009.

"These powerful recollections of food, family, and tradition have traveled down to us from generations past to help make us the people we are today. What makes this special is that everyone has a favorite family food memory to share--whether it was Great Grandma's peach cobbler, Aunt Sarah's baked ziti, or Cousin Willie's barbecued beef ribs," explained Smiley. "Now such heirloom recipes can be submitted for possible inclusion in a book that will be passed from generation to generation." Smiley confirmed that his Pass It Down Cookbook contribution will be a secret recipe from his mother, Mrs. Joyce Smiley.

"We are delighted to have Chef Jeff Henderson on board for this journey into America's kitchens and to join with our esteemed partner, Good Cook, America's #1 Choice for Kitchenware," Smiley said of the team assembled to bring these recipes of the people to the people. Henderson expressed equal enthusiasm for the project: "I'm thrilled to partner with Tavis Smiley's America I AM exhibit and Good Cook to share and celebrate the African American imprint on food. I can't wait to review the contest entries. It will be like sitting down to a meal at tables across America."

The America I AM Pass It Down Cookbook is destined to become a prized possession for fans of soulful cooking from the heart.
