Sprite Step Off – the largest step tournament in history with a combined prize pool of $1.5 million in scholarships – is coming to the Atlanta Civic Center. Fraternities and sororities from across the nation will go head-to-head during the National Finals to determine who the best team in the Sprite Step Off is and compete for their chance to win one of two $100,000 scholarship grand prizes.
The event will feature a live musical performance by GRAMMY® Award-nominated Hip Hop Star Drake. The Sprite Step Off National Finals will be held on Saturday, February 20, and will also feature the McDonald’s Flavor Battle, a premier DJ competition featuringthree local DJs each representing a favorite McDonald's burger. Audience members will then “voice their choice” for their favorite DJ's "flavor" via text message.
Additionally, the Sprite Step Off Service Challenge is partnering with Hands On Atlanta, the Boys & Girls Club of Metro Atlanta, National Park Service, local churches, the Martin L. King, Jr. Center and Atlanta City Council District 2 to host a three and a half-hourservice activity with step teams participating in the competition and community volunteers who will perform a range of volunteer tasks to help improve their local neighborhoods and give back to Atlanta residents. Activities include landscaping, neighborhoodcleanup, Historic Homes beautification, mural painting, parking lot enhancements, senior citizens activities and mentoring children. As part of the service activity, Sprite Step Off will present the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta with a $10,000 check and more than 100 books. The Sprite Step Off Service Challenge is a community service platform that calls upon young people to collectively donate 1.5 million hours of community service between September 2009 through September 2010.
