STATEN ISLAND, NY -  Thousands of protesters hit the streets of Staten Island, NY today to voice their strong feelings over the choke hold death of Eric Garner, a black man who was being arrested last month of a white cop for allegedly selling single, untaxed cigarettes.

Led by the Rev. Al Sharpton, the demonstration started at the location where Garner died and ended at a local police precinct.

The peaceful demonstration had the participants signing "Ain't No Stopping Us Now."

Sharpton told the crowd "we are not here to tear down, but to build up."  He added "we are not against the police, only those who break the law and they must be held accountable like anyone else."

An investigation of the death by the local DA is underway.
