2009 National AmeriCorps Week Opening Event Getting Green Done!
GQ Publisher Peter King Hunsinger, singer/songwriter Matt White Joined Governor David A. Paterson and First Lady Michelle Paige Paterson, to kick off a day-long event for the 2009 National AmeriCorps Week. National AmeriCorps Week is May 9-16.
National AmericCorps Week is an annual recruitment and recognition event designed to bring more Americans into service.
Last Saturday, May 9, 2009 - more than 1,500 volunteers and community and corporate partners participated in an afternoon neighborhood revitalization project focusing on Greening and Energy Conservation at Thomas Jefferson Park, First Avenue and 112 GQ Magazine brought 200 hundred subscribers and staff members. Remarks were heard from the Governor, First Lady and GQ Magazine’s Peter Hunsinger, with a special performance by singer/songwriter Matt White. “It’s a wonderful day for New York when GQ readers and The Gentlemen’s Fund team up to help re-glorify this fabulous park,” Hunsinger said. “It adds up to a lot of fun and a lot of progress.” National and recognition event designed to bring more Americans into service while saluting the efforts of AmeriCorps members and alumni for their powerful impact on society. Whether service makes a community safer, gives a child a second chance, or helps protect the environment, citizens get things done through AmeriCorps.
