31st Sickle Cell Assoc. Walk This Weekend

MIAMI – The Sickle Cell Disease Association of America (SCDAA), Miami-Dade County Chapter, Inc. in partnership with the 100 Black Men of South Florida, the City of Miami Gardens, and the Miami Dolphins will host its 31st Annual Walk/Run, 8:00am, Saturday, September 11, 2010 at Sun Life Stadium, 2269 Dan Marino Boulevard, in Miami Gardens.

SCDAA, in cooperation with the University of Miami Sickle Cell Center, reaches out to help all individuals and families affected by Sickle Cell Disease in the Greater Miami-Dade community. The 2010 Walk/Run is about improving the quality of life for people with Sickle Cell Disease. SCDAA invites you to join with us in making this event a successful one.

You can support this year’s Walk in these ways: Become a partner in the fight against sickle cell disease, pre-register online at
WWW.SICKLECELLMIAMI.ORG; collect tax-deductible donations from other supporters and join us at the Walk on September 11th; or serve as a volunteer on the day of the Walk. Students will receive community service hours for participating in the Walk.

Immediately following the Walk/Run, health screenings and a Battle of the Drum Lines competition among several high school bands will be held. These events, including the Walk/Run, are offered to encourage health and wellness for the entire family and a uniting of the whole community, while increasing awareness and raising funds for research and service to those individuals and families affected by Sickle Cell Disease. Incentives for participation include prizes for top individual winners in a variety of age groups, male and female, top organization, church fraternity, sorority, school and civic group.
