70’S SOUL JAM March 21, 2009

70’S SOUL JAM

AT THE CAPITAL ONE BANK THEATRE AT WESTBURY ON

Saturday, March 21, 2009

WESTBURY, NY - LIVE NATION proudly presents the 70’s Soul Jam at the Capital One Bank Theatre at Westbury on Saturday, March 21 at 8 PM.  This year’s show will feature The Stylistics, The Dramatics, The Chi-Lites, Blue Magic and Eddie Holman, and will be hosted by Cuba Gooding Sr.  Tickets begin at $51.50 and are available online via LiveNation.com, charge by phone at 1-877-598-8694, and Live Nation venue box offices.  For membership information, visit www.westburymembership.com.

The Stylistics, one of the leading Philly soul groups of the 70’s, is just one of the many groups that will be featured at this year’s Soul Jam.  They are one of the silkiest and sweetest soul groups of their era.  During the early 70’s, the band had 12 straight top 10 hits including “You Are My Everything,” “Betcha by Golly, Wow,” “I’m Stone in Love with You,” “Break Up to Make Up” and “You Make Me Feel Brand New.”

The Dramatics were formed in 1962 in Detroit, Michigan.  Their first hit single, “Whatcha See Is Whatcha Get,” broke into the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at #9.  Their first million selling disc, Whatcha See is Whatcha Get, was awarded gold disc status by the R.I.A.A. in December 1971.  Some of their other hit singles include   “In the Rain,” “Toast to the Fool,” “Me and Mrs. Jones,” “I’m Going By The Stars In Your Eyes” and “Be My Girl.”

The Chi-Lites, with their four part harmonies and layered productions, will also be performing at the show.  Their lush, creamy sound has distinguished them as one of the most popular soul groups of the early 70’s.  They will be performing some of their top 10 R&B singles from romantic ballads like “Have You Seen Her,” and “Oh Girl,” to protest songs like “(For God’s Sake) Give More Power to the People,” and “There Will Never Be Any Peace (Until God is Seated at the Conference Table).”

Blue Magic is best known for their smooth ballads.  They became popular in 1974 with their first million-selling US Top 10 hit single “Sideshow” and “Three Ring Circus,” both co-written by guitarist Bobby Eli.

Vocalist extraordinaire Eddie Holman is among the most listened-to artists in the fields of popular and classic R&B music.  He boasts an unforgettable falsetto voice and memorable urban love-songs such as “Hey There Lonely Girl” and “Since I Don’t Have You.”

Recently added to the line-up is host Cuba Gooding Sr.  He is best known for being the lead singer of the soul group The Main Ingredient.  The Main Ingredient is most notable for its two biggest hits, “Everybody Plays the Fool” and “Just Don't Want to Be Lonely.”
