African Dance Infuses Atlanta Ballet

ATLANTA - This March, Atlanta Ballet will present the critically-acclaimed Lambarena - a unique fusion of classical ballet and African Dance - choreographed by Val Caniparoli, in collaboration with Diamano Coura West African Dance Company. Since the Ballet's debut in 1995, it has traveled the world, receiving rave reviews from critics and audience members.

In celebration of the Atlanta Ballet premiere, the company and Atlanta Ballet's Centre for Dance Education will host a special workshop for its four partner high schools taught by artists from the Diamano Coura West African Dance Company.

The husband-and-wife duo is in Atlanta to set the African-inspired ballet Lambarena on Atlanta Ballet. The couple collaborated with choreographer Val Caniparoli on the creation of Lambarenaand has traveled the world with the production since its debut in 1995.

About “Lambarena”: A blending of traditional African rhythms and dance with melodic passages from Johann Sebastian Bach. It’s an emotion-filled work in eight movements that boldly merges the sights and sounds of classical ballet with
