FORT LAUDERDALE - Black Florida Congressman Alcee Hastings will be participating in the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) “For the People” Jobs Initiative event today, in Miami. Fellow South Florida Congresswoman Frederica Wilson 7is hosting the town hall meeting on August 22nd as well as a jobs fair on August 23rd.
The CBC has been bringing town halls and jobs fairs to cities during the month of August as part of the “For the People” Jobs Initiative, which seeks to address the current jobs crisis in the United States. The town hall will feature major public figures, including Members of Congress, tonight.
Over 100 employers, both local and national, will be participating in the jobs fair on tomorrow. Both events are free and open to the public.
Hatings said, “Make no mistake, job creation remains our number one priority. Unfortunately, there continues to be major racial and economic disparity that continues to go unaddressed in the broader discussion of job creation and economic recovery."
Hastings added, "That is why I am so pleased that the CBC has launched this initiative and is bringing these opportunities to South Florida to help tackle the pressing issue of unemployment and underemployment, especially in minority communities. This initiative puts boots on the ground to help people get back on their feet in these most difficult economic times,” said Congressman Hastings."
“From day one, my focus has been jobs, jobs, jobs,” said Congresswoman Wilson. “Unemployment in South Florida is no longer a crisis, but an epidemic. It’s time to take matters into our own hands and provide real opportunities for people to get back to work.”
