Black Professionals Tell President Obama What’s On Their Minds

Jobs and Economic Recovery Are the Number One Priority

According to Survey by AMightyRiver.com

Chicago, IL, –A nationwide survey by AMightyRiver.com http://www.amightyriver.com, the premiere online networking community for Black professionals, found that 58% of its community ranked jobs and economic recovery as their top concern,.  Healthcare came in second, the choice of 22% of respondents.   The wars in Afghanistan and Iraq were the top concern of 12%, followed by education (6%) and immigration (2%).

The survey asked AMightyRiver.com members to rank the issues that are of greatest concern to them and their families. The results will be sent to President Obama, through the Office of Public Engagement in Washington D.C. “We wanted to take the temperature of the country at a time of double-digit unemployment, underemployment, inadequate and poor healthcare, record foreclosures, ongoing war, and a downward lifestyle we never expected,” said Jim Kirsch, Chief Strategic Officer of AMightyRiver.com. “Our findings are important because they underscore the fact that although Blacks have historically faced disproportionate unemployment and underemployment, the need for employment opportunities in this aspiring community is more pressing than ever before.”

Distinguished by solely professional (rather than social) online networking, AMightyRiver.com  spotlights jobs (currently more than 100,000) posted by blue chip companies with a business imperative to fill their pipeline with talented diverse candidates. Founded by Chicago-based social entrepreneurs who care deeply about equal access and economic empowerment, AMightyRiver.com offers a host of job tools and career services that are completely free.

AMightyRiver’s rich culture and collegial environment has fostered a level of professional networking that is hard to match on “one size fits all” Websites. Because they are part of the same community, their members are inclined to mentor or open a door for another member, make an introduction to a minority-friendly loan officer, or watch for a job posting within their company for a trusted colleague. The added value of AMightyRiver's comprehensive Web platform, which enables it to build customized “micro-sites” free of charge for large and prestigious professional organizations, increases exponentially the pool of available mentors and industry-specific experts.
