Celebrating Israel's 61st Anniversary
at Apollo Theater
with David D'Or and Award-Winning Choirs from Harlem

New York- The Consulate General of Israel in New York will host a celebration in honor of Israel's 61st anniversary at the historic Apollo Theater, 235 W. 12th St., New York, NY on Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at 7:45 p.m. World-renowned Israeli singer David D'Or will perform with choirs from the African-American community, including the Hezekiah Walker - LFC, Beth El Choir and the Allen Cathedral Choir.

The evening will bring Israel's multi-cultural environment to the citizens and dignitaries of New York, while also promoting cultural awareness and celebrate a growing relationship. "We are thrilled to bring together both the Israeli and African American communities in this historic location, where music can provide a forum for understanding and cooperation," explains Consul General of Israel, Asaf Shariv.

David Saranga, Consul for Media and Public Affairs, adds: "We are excited to once again celebrate Israel's Independence Day at the historic Apollo Theater, now celebrating 75 years of history.  We value our friendship with the African-American community and hope this year's "Night of Harmony" will deepen those historical ties.  Additionally, this event will bring the face of Israel to different communities in the New York area and demonstrate our shared values, especially to the younger generations."
