CHC Fills Leadership Vacancy
(Washington DC) – With the appointment of former Congresswoman Hilda Solis to serve as the new Secretary of Labor on President Obama’s cabinet, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) was left with a vacancy on the Executive Board. This week the CHC elected Congressman Rubén Hinojosa (TX-15) as the 2nd Vice Chair of the group. In his new role, he will serve as part of the CHC leadership and help guide the direction of the caucus.
“Congressman Hinojosa has been a long time leader of the CHC and the Congress as a whole,” said Congresswoman Nydia M. Velázquez, Chair of the CHC. “As a leader in the areas of foreign affairs and education issues in the nation, he is a valued member of the caucus. I am excited to have him as part of our leadership team and look forward to working with him.”
Congressman Hinojosa is the Chair of the House Higher Education, Lifelong Learning, and Competitiveness Subcommittee. He has previously served as Chair of the CHC’s Education Task Force. This Congress, aside from his new role, he is also Chair of the Commerce/International Relations Task Force.
“This is a great honor and I look forward to serving the Congressional Hispanic Caucus in this new capacity,” Congressman Rubén Hinojosa said. “We face difficult times ahead but also tremendous opportunities. I am confident that together with the support of the new Administration, we will be able to make a measurable difference in the lives of Hispanic families across the nation.”
