Twenty-First Century Foundation in collaboration with Award Winning Actor-Director Mario Van Peebles and Producer Karen Williams
set for TV One Premiere of Groundbreaking Documentary Film Fair Game?
[New York City] As many view the Presidency of Barack Obama as a sign that the civil rights movement has overcome, FAIR GAME? - featuring a diverse group of Black men - dissects that theory in a very honest, hard-hitting and thought provoking way. It asks the question are we in fact in a post racial era? Is it now a FAIR GAME?
FAIR GAME? speaks to adults, and enlists men to add their voices to the discussion around education, employment, criminal justice, fatherhood and mental health and share their personal stories of success, the setbacks, the preparation, and the sacrifices they made that brought them ultimate success in their fields.
“These are people who are not afraid to tell the truth,” said Van Peebles. “It is brutal, honest and a real hard look at a discussion we need to have or have been having with ourselves.”
FAIR GAME? is on the pulse of what’s not being discussed in America and triggers a spectrum of emotions - anger, laughter, and sympathy. The film, a gathering of independent thinkers, gives viewers the inside story like we’ve never heard it before.
“Usually the fullness of these conversations happen around kitchen tables and living rooms,” said the Rev. John Vaughn, 21CF Program Director.
Prominent icons such as Chris Rock, Spike Lee, Dr. Cornel West, Ice Cube, Ama’re Stoudemire, Newark New Jersey Mayor Cory Booker, Richard “Dick” Parsons, Sean “Diddy” Combs, Kevin Liles, Lou Gossett Jr., Lupe Fiasco, Hill Harper, Jamie Foxx,
Kevin Powell, Melvin Van Peebles, Geoffrey Canada, Bruce Gordon, former NBA star Alan Houston, and more address the complexities that exist in society today.
“This was a rare privilege to witness the wealth and depth of insight communicated in our conversations with an incredibly diverse range of Black men about Black men,” said Williams. “These conversations had to be preserved and shared, hence FAIR GAME?”
Tune into TV One on Sunday, January 31, 2010 at 7 p.m. EST for the national broadcast of FAIR GAME?
