Haitian Independence Awards To Honor NYPD Commish

BLACK NEWS, AFRICAN AMERICAN NEWS, MINORITY NEWS, CIVIL RIGHTS NEWS, DISCRIMINATION, RACISM, RACIAL EQUALITY, BIAS, EQUALITY, AFRO AMERICAN NEWSNEW YORK - The Hatian America Caucus and the Haitian Roundtable will host the 2011 Hatitian Independence Awards tonight at the French Alliance, Florence Gould Hall in NYC.

The awards ceremony begins at 6:00PM and will commemorate the one-year anniversary of the earthquake in Haiti. Special Recognition Awards will be presented to NY State Committeewoman Rodneyse Bichotte, Ricot Dupuy, Journalist and Radio Personality, Radio Soleil and Mona Scott-Young, CEO of Monami Entertainment and former Founder and President of the legendary Violator Management, all Haitian-Americans who have performed above and beyond the call of duty following the devastating earthquake in Haiti. NYC Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly will be the first recipient of the Honorary Haitian Award for his extraordinary leadership on issues related to the Haitian community.


THE HAITIAN AMERICAN CAUCUS
The Haitian American Caucus (“HAC”) is dedicated to setting forth a platform to empower Haitian communities while building partnerships and equal access to resources. The Caucus strengthens the network of existing grassroots Haitian-American groups through sharing strategies for innovative organizing.

THE HAITIAN ROUNDTABLE
The Haitian Roundtable(“HRT”), founded in New York in 2008 is an organization comprised of Haitian American professionals who are committed to civic engagement as well as philanthropic endeavors benefiting Haiti, Haitian organizations and causes. The organization seeks to heighten awareness locally and nationally of Haitians as an emerging constituency among key stakeholders and institutions through networking, forums and events. The Haitian Roundtable also aims to educate, advocate and promote Haitias a positive brand.
