Harlem Success ranks #1 out of all public charter schools in New York State

100% of Harlem Success 3rd Graders

Slam 2009 Math Exam

A Whopping 71% Got 4s!

HarlemNY, June 1, 2009 – 100% of 3rd grade students at Harlem Success Academy slammed the 2009 New York State Math exam.  A whopping 71% of students got 4s, the highest score.

With 100% passing, Harlem Success results equal those of the highly selective Anderson School on the Upper West Side. With 71% of students at level 4, Harlem Success ranks #1 out of all public charter schools in New York State and ranks #10 out of all public schools in New York City.

Just 3 weeks ago 95% of 3rd grade students at Harlem Success Academy passed the 2009 New York State English Language Arts (ELA) exam and 23.3% of them achieved 4s.  Harlem Success Academy’s mean scale score on this test ranked #2 out of all public charter schools in New York State

I’m so proud of my child!  I can’t imagine sending him to a zone school with these scores,” said Huguette Gales-Fanny, mother of 3rd grade student Noumoutche Fanny. “I’m glad I send my child to a public charter school where they get results.”

With 19 out of 23 elementary and intermediate zone schools in Harlem failing, public charter schools like Harlem Success Academy offer an alternative for parents to choose a better education for their children.  New York City needs more, not fewer of these high-performing schools.

“Through the hard work and dedication of our teachers and parents Harlem Success scholars have achieved phenomenal results,” said Eva Moskowitz, founder of Success Charter Network and mother of three.  “Parents want a choice. They want to decide whether to send their kid to a zone school or a public charter school. Let them decide based on results.”

Last month, more than 5,000 Harlem parents attended the lottery for the four Harlem Success Academies, where there were 475 spots. Demand in Harlem for better educational options is overwhelming.
