NEW YORK - Scores of minorities joined more than 300,000 New Yorkers today as the People's Climate
March took over the city. Similar protests occurred around the world.
Organizers claim today's demonstration is New York City's largest social protest in the last decade.
This demonstration comes days before a United Nations summit brings together world leaders to discuss meaningful action on climate change.
"Our members are marching because climate change affects us all" said Hector Figueroa, a local union leader. "We live in the communities that got destroyed by storms like Sandy. We work in buildings thatget flooded. We get hit by health epidemics like asthma that are rampant in our communities and we care about the world that we will leave for our children and grandchildren."
