High School Seniors Compete To Become Virtual Valedictorians And Earn College Scholarships From National Society Of High School

High School Seniors Compete To Become Virtual Valedictorians And Earn College Scholarships From National Society Of High School Scholars (NSHSS)

PR Newswire

ATLANTA, March 31, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- "Valediction" is derived from Latin and means "to say goodbye." It has long been the title of highest academic achievement and comes with the honor of delivering a speech at the end of the graduation ceremony before students receive their diplomas. As countless high school graduation events are cancelled, deserving valedictorians will lose the opportunity to share their messages and bid their classmates farewell.

To keep this distinguished tradition alive, the National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS) has announced its 2020 Virtual Valedictorian Scholarship, which will name 10 students Virtual Valedictorians and award each a $1,000 college scholarship. Because NSHSS is an international organization, the winners will have the chance to not only share their message with their classmates, but with the world.

"Now more than ever, students need to have ways to celebrate and be recognized for their outstanding achievements," said James Lewis, NSHSS President and Co-founder. "They deserve a way to voice their thoughts during this uncertain time, and our new scholarship gives them that platform."

To enter the competition, students must be high school seniors and submit a three-to-five-minute video submission of their speech, along with their high school transcript and a headshot. The scholarship is open to both NSHSS members and non-members, and applicants do not have to be named class valedictorian. The deadline for submission is May 15, 2020, and winners will be announced on June 1, 2020. To learn more, visit virtualvaledictorian.com.
