Carallel Launches New App to Expand Personalized Caregiver Support and Insights into Healthcare’s Hidden Workforce

CHICAGO , May 23 /Businesswire/ - Carallel, the leading provider of holistic support, guidance, and assistance for family caregivers, today introduced the new Carallel Companion app, which provides caregivers an intuitive and truly personalized digital experience. The app is an evolution of Carallel’s legacy online offering and complements the efforts of the company’s Care Advocates to lessen the family caregiver’s load and maximize their crucial role in American healthcare.

Carallel Companion will now be available to hundreds of thousands of health plan members who are caregivers or benefit from one, thanks to Carallel’s partnerships with leading national and regional Medicare Advantage, D-SNP and Medicaid plans across the country.

“We are guided by some simple mantras and this new digital experience delivers on some of the most important ones: Don’t give caregivers more homework. Make access to help easy. Connect solutions seamlessly,” said Shara Cohen, CEO, Carallel. “Carallel Companion builds on seven years of learning with caregivers across the country and delivers what they ask us for: immediate access to expert, compassionate Care Advocates, the guidance and training they need, and the benefits and resources that solve immediate challenges.”

AARP has estimated that 53 million Americans act as a caregiver for a loved one. More than 40% describe the experience as “high intensity” based on the amount of time devoted to caregiving and number of caregiving activities completed in a week. In an effort to help caregivers manage their physical and emotional health and well-being, the Biden Administration pledged to improve support for family caregivers, underscoring the critical importance of supporting this population.

Carallel Companion guides caregivers on their journey, offering proactive recommendations based on the caregiver’s situation, relationship, buffers and barriers.

“The Carallel Companion app has been a game-changer for me since my wife's diagnosis and my kids and I have become her caregiver,” said Arthur Flug, caregiver and Carallel user. “We are supporting her as her dementia progresses. It’s like Carallel knows exactly what I’m going through and the support I need to keep going. I feel more confident in caring for my wife and less overwhelmed thanks to Carallel.”

In addition to an improved digital experience, Carallel Companion also includes:

  • One-click access to Care Advocates — experts trained in fields such as social work, end-of-life care or dementia care — available via voice, chat, or email
  • Curated resources and tools to help caregivers learn what they need to do and how to take action, including smart referrals to other plan benefits and community resources
  • A secure platform for caregivers to coordinate tasks within their Circle of Care and find a new community of peers
  • In-depth insights so health plans can uncover new, valued opportunities to better support their members and their whole health

“We designed Carallel Companion to foster personal connections and provide adaptive assistance tailored to each caregiver’s unique journey,” said Miraj Chokshi, chief product officer, Carallel. “The effectiveness of our solution is rooted in the trust developed through interactions with our Care Advocates. By leveraging years of live support and digital interaction data, Carallel Companion builds on that trust, encourages meaningful connections, and aims to significantly lessen the burden caregivers feel.”

Carallel also recently built healthcare’s first-of-its-kind caregiver support ecosystem. By forging partnerships with leading companies across the caregiving space, Carallel is unique in its ability to improve access to caregiver benefits that address the full spectrum of caregiver needs. In fact, Carallel recently introduced new partnerships with Empathy (for bereavement support), myFloc (for financial management support) and Jukebox Health (for home modifications and safety).

The release of Carallel Companion builds on the company’s $8.2 million Series A funding round in December 2022 and its commitment to helping health plans improve Medicare Stars performance, extend care management for quality improvement, and differentiate themselves in competitive markets. Across the country, these caregivers average >90% user satisfaction and >80% completion rates for targeted programs like advance care planning.
