Mortenson | Clark and Golden State Warriors Honor Women Leaving Their Mark on Chase Center, and the Construction Industry, during National Women in Construction Week

PR Newswire

SAN FRANCISCO, March 15, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Friday, March 8, Mortenson | Clark, the construction joint venture building Chase Center hosted a luncheon at the project site at 500 Terry Francois Boulevard to celebrate the valuable contributions women are making to construction industry, and specifically to San Francisco's most highly-anticipated sports and entertainment venue. City Administrator Naomi Kelly, and Nadia Sesay, Executive Director of City's Office of Community Investment and Infrastructure, participated in the event.  Kelly said, "Clark Construction, Mortenson and the Warriors recognize that women are an essential part of the modern construction economy and San Francisco is thankful for their ongoing commitment to equality."

The Golden State Warriors also participated in the event, which honored highly skilled women in the industry, and 10 inspiring women who have played meaningful and diverse roles in the construction of the Chase Center – future home of the Golden State Warriors.  At the luncheon, women spoke candidly about their experiences in a traditionally male-dominated industry and shared their personal stories about how they entered the field of construction.

Women are represented in every aspect of the construction of the Warriors' new, world-class home court:

  • Compared with other construction projects in the city, the Chase jobsite employs 40% more female craftworkers, representing nearly every facet of work – including plumbers, electricians, iron workers, equipment operators, drywall installers, glaziers, tile finishers, roofers, painters, carpenters, cement masons, surveyors, laborers, and flaggers, as well as on design and engineering teams, and as members of the Warriors organization.
  • 13 women-owned San Francisco-based small businesses are engaged at the Chase Center construction site.
  • The Mortenson | Clark joint venture management team has women represented in nearly every facet of project management, including as engineers, assistant superintendents, project managers, and schedulers.

Mortenson | Clark kicked off National Women in Construction Week on March 4 with an All-Hands meeting involving the entire workforce of 1,350. Jim McLamb, Project Director for Chase Center's construction highlighted the impact that women are having on the project -- and the industry as a whole. McLamb said, "Women are a key component of helping our industry evolve. Perhaps no one understands this better than the Clark and Mortenson teams."
