South Metro Development Outlook Conference Honors Eight Female Mayors

ATLANTA, Feb. 18, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, the South Metro Development Outlook (SMDO) Conference announced it will honor eight female mayors who currently hold office throughout the South Metro region during its 18^th annual event. Each Mayor will be recognized for leadership, outstanding achievement and a strong commitment to public service during the awards luncheon at 12:00 p.m. on February 20, 2020, at the Georgia International Convention Center. Judge Penny Brown Reynolds will deliver the keynote address.

Honorees include Mayor Bianca Motley-Broom (College Park), Mayor Rochelle Robinson (Douglasville), Mayor Deana Holiday Ingraham (East Point), Mayor Elizabeth Carr-Hurst (Fairburn), Mayor Angelyne Butler (Forest Park), Mayor Vanessa Fleisch (Peachtree City), Mayor Joy Day (Jonesboro), and Mayor Evelyn Wynn-Dixon (Riverdale).

According to the US Conference of Mayors, nearly 17 percent of American cities over 30,000 in population have women mayors. Research has shown that when women ascend into leadership roles, they bring unique experiences to government that lead to gender-inclusive public policies, economic growth, safer environments, infrastructure development and improvement to the quality of life for all citizens.

SMDO has also confirmed that Georgia Governor Brian Kemp will deliver special remarks at 8:00 a.m. The Governor joins other elected officials, corporate leaders, and policy experts who will participate in panel discussions on various economic development issues. Topics include Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport's expansion, the Aerotropolis Atlanta, Transportation, and Smart Cities & Communities.
