Massachusetts Veterans Encouraged To Participate In New Study, Findings Will Affect Future Veteran Services

BRIGHTON, Mass., April 8, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- Brighton Marine, a veteran network community in Massachusetts, and the Center for a New American Security (CNAS), an independent and bipartisan research institution in Washington D.C. focused on national security and defense, today announced a statewide needs assessment for veterans in Massachusetts. This study is an opportunity for veterans of all ages and stages or duty to voice their needs; the findings will inform future services and support provided to veterans throughout Massachusetts.

"This important research will help us to better understand Massachusetts veterans' needs," said Michael Dwyer, president of Brighton Marine. This research will provide necessary insight to ensure that Brighton Marine, along with the State and other organizations supporting Massachusetts veterans, provide services that meet veterans' current and future needs."

This project will focus on issues facing veterans of all ages in Massachusetts. It will examine:

• Interventions that could benefit veterans ranging from those with acute needs to those that are more stable;
• barriers, challenges or inequities that veterans face including health, housing, financial stability and social support;
• national and comparative data on topics including anticipated changes to veteran demographics across Massachusetts, as well as their education, employment, income, homelessness, health care access, and VA health care spending; and
• infrastructure supporting veterans in Massachusetts.

For more than 100 years, Brighton Marine, in one form or another, has provided extensive care services to New England's Veterans and more recently connected multiple veteran service providers through a coordinated care network. In addition to a variety of Veteran services, the campus is  home to the Residences at Brighton Marine, the country's first public and private housing project for Active Duty, Veterans, National Guard, Reservists and their families. And will soon add permanent housing for high needs male veterans.
