Cultural Intelligence Expert Leads Workshop Series on How to Navigate Cross-Cultural Conversations During Challenging Times

Dr. Amy Narishkin provides insight for parents, teachers, and leaders in her interactive workshop series: "How to Talk About Differences with Children and Navigate Cross-cultural Conversations with Friends."

PR Newswire

ST. LOUIS, Mo., July 7, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Dr. Amy Narishkin, a consultant and facilitator at Empowering Partners, will host a 4-part educational workshop series for parents, teachers, and leaders, exploring the challenges and solutions surrounding conversations about differences of race, nationality, gender, generation, orientation, religion, class, health, and ability. Drawing on her years of experience teaching Cultural Intelligence and working with leaders and executives to build more inclusive and diverse work environments, Dr. Narishkin offers an interactive workshop series so participants can:

  • Relate better to people by discovering the value of a multicultural mindset
  • Get past stereotypes by learning how to outsmart assumptions
  • Learn about other people's contexts and lived experiences by developing cultural awareness
  • Develop more genuine relationships so that children and adults feel valued, heard, and engaged
  • Become patient and learn how to express compassion in a way that is meaningful for themselves and others
  • Discuss challenging topics about differences with more confidence

Dr. Narishkin provides the context and offers specific tools while engaging attendees in thoughtful dialogues to build the skills for culturally intelligent conversation with children and adults. Registrants will attend 4 consecutive sessions, each workshop building on the content of the previous one. Each workshop will meet virtually on Thursdays from 8-9 am starting July 23 and concluding on August 13.

Empowering Partners' Workshop Series includes:

  • Session 1: Make the Case—July 23
  • Session 2: Outsmart Assumptions—July 30
  • Session 3: Express Empathy—Aug 6
  • Session 4: Discover Cultural Awareness —Aug 13

"This workshop helps parents, teachers, and leaders understand our culture's characteristics and ingrained values so they will be better equipped to appreciate different perspectives and show genuine respect with people of varied backgrounds," said Narishkin. "For parents, these sessions will help them take advantage of "teachable moments" with their children and turn potentially awkward instances into opportunities to talk respectfully about differences and the value they add to our families and our society. Educating our children, friends, family, and/or colleagues starts with educating ourselves."

Narishkin is cognizant of the fact that she is a white woman teaching this course. She understands the privilege and responsibility from being identified with the majority white cultural group. That is why she feels compelled to teach these skills of Cultural Intelligence, so others can feel the freedom to safely walk and talk in a world that is increasingly more diverse.

In a global crisis, Narishkin believes now is not the time to circle our wagons in self-protection. Now is the time to practice Cultural Intelligence and work to ensure the dignity of every individual. She will pose the question: "Within my sphere of influence as parent, teacher and/or leader, what can I do or, even better, what can we do to ensure each person within our families, organizations, and communities feels valued, heard, and engaged?"

Narishkin's workshop is open to the media.
