Talking Squarely: Square's New Podcast Follows the Changes and Challenges Facing Businesses Today

SAN FRANCISCO , September 16 /Businesswire/ - Today, Square announced its first official podcast, Talking Squarely, which brings sellers together for frank discussions and to share their perspectives on some of the most pressing issues impacting their lives and livelihoods — from the changing rules of commerce to work-life balance. With businesses continually responding and adapting to new realities, Talking Squarely provides an opportunity for sellers to ask questions and talk freely around the new, unique challenges they’re experiencing in today’s environment.

“We’re living in an unpredictable time and the landscape around owning a business has completely changed,” said Lauren Stovall, owner of Hot Sam’s and guest on Episode 3 of Talking Squarely. “Businesses have to adapt and ensure they’re making smart decisions for their customers, staff, and themselves. We hope sharing our experience will bring support and guidance to other businesses as we all look to learn and grow during this time.”

Every episode of Talking Squarely aims to foster a sense of community by featuring a panel of Square sellers from various backgrounds and industries. The podcast dives into topics like health and safety, customer engagement, and business management, with episodes including:

  • Talking Squarely About What’s Next | Running a Small Business During COVID-19: Business owners from across the country discuss how their respective regions are approaching life after coronavirus and how they’re grappling with the potential return to a new normal, featuring Juxtapose in Tampa, FL, Callie’s Little Hot Biscuit in Charleston, SC, and Dozzino in Hoboken, NJ.
  • Talking Squarely About Doing Good: Businesses share creative ways they are lending hope to those in need and how they’re building up their communities, with 9Tailors in Boston, MA, Yassin’s Falafel House in Knoxville, TN, and Andytown Coffee in San Francisco, CA.
  • Talking Squarely About Financial Survival: A discussion on how businesses are dealing with difficult financial decisions and uncertainty with Hot Sam’s in Detroit, MI, Senor Sisig in San Francisco, CA, and Rudy’s Flower Truck in St. Louis, MO.
  • Talking Squarely About Black Businesses in America with Killer Mike: Rapper and entrepreneur Michael Render, more commonly known as Killer Mike, discusses how to encourage Black economic inclusion and entrepreneurship during a time of increased racial tension, and what it means to be a community leader.

“Shortly after the coronavirus pandemic began affecting businesses, Square started producing short audio stories from sellers for our social media channels. The authenticity of these stories were immediately compelling, sparking excitement around the idea of giving sellers a continued platform to share their stories and experiences,” said Nelson Murray, Square Senior Creative Producer and Talking Squarely host. “Talking Squarely empowers businesses to share raw, honest commentary about how they are adapting, while also being able to lean on and learn from each other. It's an immense privilege for us to connect with business owners like this.”

Talking Squarely is currently in Season 1, with Season 2 launching in 2021. To listen to Talking Squarely, visit https://squareup.com/us/en/l/podcast.
