Together, the organizers have convened one of the largest non-partisan voter mobilization event in the country, dubbed “Tu Música, Tu Voz, Tu Voto.” The event will be streamed on The Young Turks Facebook channel at 7:30pm - 9:00pm EST (4:30pm - 6:00pm PST) on October 20, 2020. The Tu Música, Tu Voz, Tu Voto event will include some of America’s most talented Latinx artists in music and TV, including Rosario Dawson, Carlos Santana, Amara La Negra, Frankie Negron, and many others. Comedians Aida Rodriguez and Gadiel Del Orbe will be the hosts.

The event is predicted to reach over 125 million Latinx youth from across the country, with a special focus on California, Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Texas.

“This is one of those moments at a critical time in history when the stars align providing incredible collaborative partners and artists who want to ensure the voices of the voiceless are heard,” says Sankofa.org Executive Director and event organizer Gina Belafonte. “TMTVTV has given us a way in which to culturally engage the artistic and influencer community to inspire the Latinx vote. It has been an ongoing intention in the work of Sankofa.org to unify our Black and Brown community, and our partnership with the Latino Community Foundation resoundingly exemplifies building power together.”

“Latinos are the second-largest voting bloc in the nation with 32 million are eligible voters,” says Jacqueline Martinez Garcel, CEO of the Latino Community Foundation. “With all that 2020 has thrown at us, we are ready — to dance, sing, and laugh our way to the ballot box or the mailbox. This is our time. And we will show up in historic numbers.”

Over 30 allied partner organizations throughout the U.S. are involved in the program and will be engaging and mobilizing their membership to make sure Latinx youth voters are ready to cast their ballots.

“At TYT, we pride ourselves in being able to amplify diverse voices and causes through our platform. We’re the #1 most engaged network in news and politics and hope we can translate that into increased voter participation as viewers watch Tu Música, Tu Voz, Tu Voto,” says TYT founder and CEO, Cenk Uygur. “Change is possible when groups of people work together and that’s why I’m honored that TYT was selected as a streaming partner for this event presented by Sankofa.org, in partnership with the Latino Community Foundation, to support voter turnout on Election Day.”

About Sankofa.org

Sankofa.org is a social justice organization founded by Harry Belafonte that enlists the support of today's most celebrated artists and influential individuals in collaboration with grassroots partners to elevate the voices of the disenfranchised and promote justice, peace, and equality.

Sankofa.org is fiscally sponsored by Social and Environmental Entrepreneurs. Through art, culture, and media Sankofa.org addresses injustice and creates change at multiple levels. In support of our grassroots partners, we enlist artists, performers, and prominent individuals to deliver messages of moral and political consequence. We stage a wide range of events to further amplify our message and elevate the voices of those already doing this critical work. Additionally, we employ online and offline media to increase the awareness and spirit of activism.

Sankofa focuses on issues of injustice that disproportionately affect the disenfranchised, the oppressed, and the underserved, which left unaddressed will continue to impact the lives of too many individuals and remain a scar on our nation’s moral character.
