PR Newswire

SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 2, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The 3% Movement, the advertising and creative industries' leading voice for gender equality and diversity overall, will host an online movie screening of NEVERTHELESS, followed by a panel discussion with the filmmaker, Sarah Moshman, and Tarana Burke, founder of the MeToo Movement, on Tuesday, Dec. 8 from 4-6 p.m. PST.

The 3% Movement hosted its 9th annual 3% Conference "The Radically Inclusive Future of Work" in July (in a first-time digital format), and discussed many of the systemic challenges impacting people today, both professionally and personally.

The 3% Movement will close out the year addressing sexual harassment with Indieflix's NEVERTHELESS, a film that goes behind the headlines of #MeToo and Time's Up, following real-life stories of seven individuals who have experienced sexual harassment in the workplace or school context. Viewers will hear experiences and reflections from: Patricia Vargo (Brooks), 911 Dispatcher; Amaani Lyle, Writer's Assistant on a Top TV Show; Cheryl Y. Sew Hoy, Tech CEO; Tonya Exum, Auto Plant Worker; Marie Angel Hernandez, Restaurant Worker and Trans Rights Activist; Heath Phillips, US Navy Veteran; and Juliet and Lilly Bond, Mother and Daughter; as well as insights from both women and men who are working to eradicate sexual harassment.

Following the movie, there will be a panel discussion featuring the filmmaker, Sarah Moshman and Tarana Burke, activist and founder of the MeToo Movement, an organization that actively works to dismantle power and privilege, and provides support to those who have experienced sexual harassment and violence.

"3% began tracking the impact of sexual harassment on women in the advertising industry in 2015 when we commissioned 'Elephant on Madison Avenue,' a survey that revealed that over half of respondents had been subjected to an unwanted sexual advance at work. We created our Sexual Harassment learning module as a way to generate conversation and action in response to these realities. We are proud to give all Nevertheless documentary screeners access to this 3% resource, along with the invaluable resources and advice of activists Tarana Burke and Sarah Moshman," says Kat Gordon, founder of The 3% Movement.

Major themes that are discussed in the film, include: sexual harassment, sexual assault, gender-based violence, victim blaming, retaliation, privilege, intersectionality, toxic masculinity, socialization of children, the legal system, the transgender experience, and much more. Burke and Moshman will speak to many of these issues, along with how we can all help to end sexual harassment and how to proceed moving forward.

Scilla Andreen, Indieflix CEO and executive producer of NEVERTHELESS, says, "We are thrilled to be working with the 3% Movement and Tarana Burke to bring this powerful and informative film and discussion to the advertising and creative industry. NEVERTHELESS is a challenging but ultimately hopeful look at gender bias and sexual harassment, demonstrating the courage and resilience of women (and men) as they persist in standing up against gender bias and sexual harassment."

Ticketholders for this year's 3% Conference will be able to access the movie screening and panel discussion at no additional charge, delivered via the Hubb platform that showcased 3%'s three-day digital event earlier this year. New ticket purchasers will receive access to the live movie screening and panel discussion, along with all of this year's 3% Conference content until 12/31/2020, plus access to the 3% Movement's Sexual Harassment Learning Module (a $99 value) to continue conversation inside their companies. The movie screening is re-watchable for 48 hours.

ABOUT THE 3% MOVEMENT

Started as a passion project to spotlight a huge business opportunity in advertising -- the lack of female creative leadership and its impact on connecting with an overwhelmingly female marketplace -- the 3% Movement has grown exponentially since its 2012 launch and has hosted events in 27 cities globally. Now moving beyond awareness to activation, the 3% team offers consulting services to support more diverse leadership and a 3% Certified program that awards those demonstrating true leadership around gender diversity. ABOUT ME TOO

'me too.' research found that the original hashtag movement in 2017 was effective in waking the world up to the prevalence of sexual violence and giving survivors a powerful voice. However, unlike causes such as climate change or Black Lives Matter, it was less clear where allies fit in or the ways in which they can help. A second challenge was that the success of #MeToo had reduced the movement to a hashtag in certain people's minds. Working with FCB, Burke's team envisioned its next chapter to be about inciting action — such as changes to laws and policies — and increasing the accessibility of the movement so it had an equally important role for advocates and allies, as well as survivors. To counteract the historic silencing of survivors' voices, the work involved a novel application of blockchain technology, so that each user's contribution to the movement is recorded permanently in a public ledger that can't be silenced, altered or erased.
