OXNARD, Calif., Dec. 3, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Opening in mid-January 2021, Regency Palms Oxnard (RPOX) is excited to introduce distinctive programming options to its future residents. An array of robust programming offerings to meet each resident's unique needs will be available for its future residents to encourage complete whole-body wellness.

"I am excited to welcome our new residents and provide them with meaningful programs that improve their physical, psychosocial, and emotional well-being," said Ken Mahler, Executive Director of Regency Palms Oxnard. "Our team has been diligently preparing and developing these programs to encourage complete whole-body wellness, while implementing measures to keep residents as safe as possible."

RPOX will emphasize an active senior lifestyle for its residents through its programming that includes daily engagement and social activities. An active senior lifestyle is an important key to support overall wellness among the resident population. The National Institute on Aging has conducted several research studies that show a correlation between social interaction among seniors and their health and well-being. These emotional bonds can lead to healthier lifestyles including being active, eating healthy foods, and ceasing poor health habits such as smoking.

For all residents, RPOX will offer active programs that focus on social engagement such as ongoing adult education, card clubs, history club, onsite salon, art studio with classes, reduced rates for season ticket holders for the Arts, local sporting events, art classes, and open studio for independent art. Additional engagement experiences for residents are available through transportation services provided by RPOX to local events, shopping, scenic drives, and appointments.

For residents in all care levels, RPOX has partnered with Revolution in Motion to offer their innovative wellness and strength-building program. Dr. Edythe Heus developed the Revolution in Motion program which integrates novel, integrative, and complex movements that through neurologically based activities stimulate cognitive function and improve mobility. RPOX provides certified instructors who have attended hands-on training from Dr. Heus. These certified instructors use somatosensory tools to create functional movement exercises that stimulate the brain and improve the body. Older adults participating in Revolution in Motion have gained benefits including improvements in balance, agility, posture, gait, reaction time, flexibility, fall prevention, energy, focus and concentration.

For seniors with Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia, RPOX will offer its distinctive dementia care program based on a Montessori methodology: Montessori Moments in Time™ (MMIT). The goals of MMIT are to enhance living for those with memory impairment by the guidance of the program's five directional paths and by using Validation techniques for communication. Other foundational elements of the program include: The Resident Life Story and the Snacks that Pack Program.

Five Directional Paths: Each directional path has the resident and family in mind to encourage independence and help deal with the progression of Alzheimer's disease and other related dementias. These paths include Family Connections, Health and Wellness, Dining Experience, Life Engagement, and Team Promise. Family Connections focus on the well-being of our families through virtual workshops, social connections, volunteer opportunities, support, and education. Health and Wellness is based on providing satisfying experiences, promoting independence, and encouraging positive behavior while maintaining respect and dignity. The Dining Experience leverages meals as a time to reminisce, create new memories, maximize independence, and promote socializing, all in an inviting, safe environment. Life Engagement includes scheduled programs that support the whole person allowing residents to function at their highest potential, giving them a sense of purpose and overall well-being. Team Promise focuses on developing care partnerships through ongoing education and training.

Validation: Validation is a method of communicating with and helping cognitively impaired seniors. It is a practical way of communicating that helps reduce stress, enhance dignity and promote happiness. Validation is an empathetic and holistic approach in which caregivers are asked to "step into their shoes" and "see through their eyes" to understand the meaning of behaviors. This method allows seniors the opportunity to express, both verbal and non-verbal, their feelings and needs, often having been suppressed for years.

Resident Life Stories: Every resident has a life story and a vast group of experiences. The MMIT program leverages resident life stories, past routines, and preferences to create a day tailored to the resident, guiding them through their activities of daily living, such as programming and meals. Using the residents' past routines not only directs them to what comes next, but also increases their feelings of self-esteem. Used in conjunction with Validation, it increases feelings of belonging and safety.

Snacks that Pack Program: Nutrition is important for seniors particularly with Alzheimer's or other dementias. The Snacks that Pack program offers residents nutrient-dense, antioxidant-rich snacks three times a day with a specialized hydration program.

RPOX has partnered with MUSIC & MEMORY® to deliver a music program that provides emotional and behavioral benefits to its future residents with Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia. MUSIC & MEMORY® is a nonprofit organization that has more than a decade of experience working to incorporate music into memory care programming. Through personalized therapeutic music and custom playlists developed for each resident, MUSIC AND MEMORY® may activate what some research has shown are areas of the brain spared by Alzheimer's disease, ultimately helping participants with recall, mood and temperament, and a reconnection with the long-term memories associated with favorite music or certain songs.
