NowRx Brings Same-Day Prescription Delivery to East Bay With Launch of Pleasanton Location

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. , January 27 /Businesswire/ - NowRx, a technology-enabled pharmacy that uses proprietary pharmacy software and last-mile logistics to provide same-day and same-hour delivery of prescription medications, today announced the opening of a new high-tech micro-fulfillment center in Pleasanton, Ca., in the San Francisco Bay Area’s East Bay. This is in addition to NowRx’s other Bay Area locations in Mountain View, San Jose, and Burlingame. The latest expansion will allow NowRx to serve most parts of the following East Bay cities: Moraga, Hayward, Fremont, Pleasanton, Sunol, San Ramon, Dublin, Castro Valley, Livermore, Diablo, Danville and Walnut Creek.

NowRx is experiencing exponential growth...90% year over year. COVID has contributed to increasing demand because consumers want their prescription medication delivered to their homes in a matter of hours rather than going into a pharmacy and waiting in a line. NowRx is able to provide this same day, as well as same-hour service by using advanced proprietary software, including AI and robotics. Overhead costs are low because NowRx does not rely on expensive real estate to drive foot traffic into a pharmacy.

“No one wants to be stuck waiting in line for a prescription, especially during a pandemic,” said Cary Breese, NowRx CEO and Co-Founder. “Large chain pharmacies would have a tough time providing a better customer experience because their legacy software systems and manual processes create terrible bottlenecks and inefficiencies.” According to Breese, by re-engineering pharmacy management software and deploying modern automation technology in low-overhead, high-tech micro-fulfillment centers, NowRx can provide a far better customer experience at the same or better margins than the industry’s largest players.

Due to rising demand, NowRx will be opening two more micro-fulfillment centers in the next month - one in Hayward, Ca. and the other in Van Nuys, Ca. In addition, the company just opened another facility in Arizona in December of 2020. In the last year, NowRx has grown its new customer base by 84% and increased revenues by 90%. Since its first delivery in 2016, NowRx has delivered over 200,000 prescriptions to more than 28,000 customers.

NowRx’s competitive advantage is its proprietary pharmacy management software technology, QuickFill (v3.5), which was built from the ground up to streamline and simplify prescription fulfillment and delivery while reducing costs and improving customer service. QuickFill was recently certified by the nation’s leading health information network, Surescripts Health Alliance Network, which unifies electronic health records (EHR) vendors, pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs), pharmacies, clinicians and health plans and connects QuickFill to more than 1.5 million physicians across the U.S. The QuickFill technology suite includes both a consumer app that provides customers with transparency and control over their prescriptions as they are being processed, as well as Wheelz, the driver app that coordinates delivery by NowRx’s HIPAA-trained drivers, enables delivery signatures and transactions, and tracks deliveries in real-time through GPS.

NowRx technology accelerates processes, saves consumers millions of dollars.

QuickFill technology also incorporates end-to-end robotic dispensing. When a customer clicks on the button to order a refill, that order is automatically routed to the nearest NowRx micro-fulfillment center, where robots sort, count, bottle and label each medication in less than 30 seconds. The QuickFill software also streamlines the insurance approval process and even has an automated coupon feature that has saved customers millions of dollars by automatically searching for and applying drug manufacturer coupons.
