Planned Parenthood Northern California Opens New Flagship Health Center in San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO , March 08 /Businesswire/ - Planned Parenthood Northern California (PPNorCal) will open the doors tomorrow to its brand new, state-of-the-art $22MM flagship health center that was funded entirely by more than 800 individual donations. Located at 1522 Bush Street near Van Ness Avenue, the San Francisco flagship health center is easily accessible via public transit. It offers access to a range of care, including wellness exams, birth control, cancer screenings, STI testing and treatment, gender-affirming care, and abortion. PPNorCal provides expert health care services to 78,000 people each year across 17 health centers.

PPNorCal’s flagship design was patient-centered and inspired. By the numbers, PPNorCal anticipates receiving 20,400 visits and 13,000 patients annually at the brand-new health center and expects a three-day decrease in appointment waiting time. The flagship will serve as a hub for training and other community events and host PPNorCal’s executive office, research department, education department, public affairs, and fundraising staff.

“At PPNorCal, we’ve always believed that your body is your own. With the opening of our San Francisco flagship location completely funded by donors, we are one step further in ensuring people have more control over their lives, their health, and their future,” says Gilda Gonzales, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood Northern California. “Now is the time to strengthen and secure sexual and reproductive health care access. It is going to take all of us — the Biden administration, states, local governments, communities, and individuals — to meet this moment.”

Hours for the new health center are available on the PPNorCal website here. The new 12,000 square-foot location features open architecture with an emphasis on promoting safety and efficiency. The facility has eight multi-functional exam and counseling rooms, four surgical suites, and will offer expanded services including vasectomies, broader abortion care and mental health services.

PPNorCal began serving the San Francisco community in 2011 at 1650 Valencia Street, which is now permanently closed. With a vision of increased impact and innovation, the organization launched a five-year fundraising campaign from January 2015 to December 2019, despite multiple and elevated threats starting January 2017. This fundraising effort resulted in an impressive amount generated by a total of 877 individuals and organizations such as San Francisco’s Hellman Foundation. The project also received a broad range of community support.

“In the midst of a global health crisis, all of us at the Hellman Foundation are moved and inspired by Planned Parenthood Northern California’s commitment to making health care accessible for all,” says Susan Hirsch, Executive Director of the Hellman Foundation. “With the opening of the San Francisco flagship health center, Planned Parenthood Northern California will continue to set a national model for community rootedness, equity, and exceptional health care, education and advocacy. We are proud to be part of the community of donors that helped this vision come to life and we look forward to the expanded impact and leadership that Planned Parenthood Northern California will have in the years, decades, to come.”

PPNorCal looks forward to its continued, expanded support of the San Francisco community. For more information and to book an appointment, please visit https://www.plannedparenthood.org/planned-parenthood-northern-california or call 1-800-230-7526.
