Granite and Granite CANDID Partners with Black-Owned Businesses to Commemorate Juneteenth

Network Solutions Provider Supports and Promotes African American Enterprises in its Communities

PR Newswire

QUINCY, Mass., June 18, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Granite Telecommunications LLC, a $1.65 billion provider of network and communications services to multilocation businesses and government agencies, today announced that it will commemorate Juneteenth National Independence Day with partnerships between the Granite CANDID diversity and inclusion organization and Black-owned businesses in its local communities.

Juneteenth, which was declared an official federal holiday this week, has marked the June 19, 1865, emancipation of African American slaves every year since 1866.

"We applaud the decision to make Juneteenth a federal holiday," Kyle Swist, Chair of Granite CANDID and Vice President of Talent Management at Granite. "While long overdue, the declaration recognizes the adversity suffered by African Americans who helped to build our great nation."

In observance of the new federal holiday, Granite CANDID has launched an initiative to promote education of its teammates and economic development for Black-owned businesses in the communities where its teammates live and work.

Granite CANDID's Juneteenth activities include:

  • Partnerships with Boston-based Black-owned businesses to promote their services to Granite's thousands of employees using discounts and coupon codes. Participating businesses include Deliver Wash, Grace Clean Co, Brown and Coconut, SchnelleCares and Frugal Bookstore.
  • Celebratory luncheons catered by local Black-owned restaurants at each of Granite's 11 regional offices
  • Programming to educate Granite teammates about the history of the Juneteenth
  • Early release on June 18 for Granite teammates to begin preparation and celebration of the holiday

"Granite and Granite CANDID are proud to support Black-owned local businesses and to give back to our local communities in celebration of Juneteenth," said Swist. "We're grateful to the business owners who partnered with us and extended discounts to our staff."
