Synchrony Scores 100 on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation's Assessment of LGBTQ+ Workplace Equality

PR Newswire

STAMFORD, Conn., Jan. 27, 2022 /PRNewswire/ -- Synchrony proudly announced it received a perfect score of 100 on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation's 2022 Corporate Equality Index (CEI), the nation's foremost benchmarking survey and report measuring corporate policies and practices related to LGBTQ+ workplace equality. This is the seventh year in a row that Synchrony's commitment to LGBTQ+ diversity and inclusion is recognized by the company's top score, achieving the designation as one of the "Best Places to Work for LGBTQ+ Equality."

"Equity, diversity and inclusion is central to our culture and it's how we operate."

"Now more than ever, it's critical that we continue to grow and sustain a culture that welcomes, values and celebrates all experiences and perspectives," said Michael Matthews, Chief Diversity and Corporate Responsibility Officer at Synchrony. "Equity, diversity and inclusion is central to our culture and it's how we operate.  We are grateful to be recognized for our ongoing commitment as a best place to work for LGBTQ+ equality."

Synchrony cultivates a diverse and inclusive workplace through its eight Diversity Networks, with involvement from more than 10,000 employees who actively work across these employee resource groups to help attract, retain and grow diverse talent. Through the company's LGBT+ Network, thousands of employees help cultivate an environment where individuals can thrive, be their authentic selves and help advocate for LGBTQ+ people in the communities and marketplaces we serve.

In 2002, the first year of the CEI, only 13 companies achieved a top-score, demonstrating the incredible impact the CEI has had on the business world over its 20-year life. This year's CEI reflects growth across every measurement category, from the adoption of inclusive non-discrimination policies to equitable healthcare benefits for transgender employees.

"When the Human Rights Campaign Foundation created the Corporate Equality Index 20 years ago, we dreamed that LGBTQ+ workers—from the factory floor to corporate headquarters, in big cities and small towns—could have access to the policies and benefits needed to thrive and live life authentically," said Jay Brown, Human Rights Campaign Senior Vice President of Programs, Research and Training. "We are proud that the Corporate Equality Index paved the way to that reality for countless LGBTQ+ workers in America and abroad. But there is still more to do, which is why we are raising the bar yet again to create more equitable workplaces and a better tomorrow for LGBTQ+ workers everywhere. Congratulations to Synchrony for achieving the title of 'best places to work for LGBTQ+ equality' and working to advance inclusion in the workplace."

As part of the 2022 CEI, Synchrony was evaluated on policies and practices across four key pillars: non-discrimination policies across business entities, equitable benefits for LGBTQ+ workers and their families, supporting an inclusive culture, and corporate social responsibility. Synchrony's commitment and policies met all the CEI criteria.
