GlossWire Awards Hair Care Brand Wonder Curl $10,000 in its Global Pitch Competition

SEATTLE , June 29 /Businesswire/ - GlossWire hosted its GlossPitch virtual pitch competition on June 15, 2022. Ten finalists pitched in front of influential leaders in media and beauty, and moderator GlossWire CEO and Founder Kimberly Carney, to win incredible cash prizes, global recognition and invaluable mentoring.

The competition took place in two phases. GlossWire’s beauty brands first applied by submitting their brand information and story behind the brand. The field was narrowed to 10 top finalists and the brands were then given the chance to compete live at the virtual global GlossPitch event.

“The GlossPitch competition allowed us to shine a spotlight on our beauty brands and award them with funds to help support their growing businesses,” stated Kimberly Carney, GlossWire Founder and CEO. “In these very unusual times, innovation and entrepreneurship are more important than ever. These winners will help to drive growth as we begin to recover on the other side of the pandemic and its related economic decline in the retail industry.”

The second phase was the live competition, which was hosted virtually by GlossWire, where 10 of the finalists pitched one after the other to a live panel of executives and influencers in the beauty and media industries including Ali Bouhouch, Chief Technology Officer of Szentia; Amanda Boyle, Beauty Director for Fairchild Media Group; Briggitta Hardin, Co-Founder of NFZD Beauty; Cynthia Hollen, CEO & Co-Founder of MAVI and GlossWire Advisory Board Member; Joe Wong, Owner of Baxter of California and GlossWire Advisory Board Member; Paris Roche, Head of Business Development for Amazon Premium Beauty; and Susanah Zeffiro, Senior Client Partner, Beauty for Spotify and GlossWire Advisory Board Member.

The 1st place $10,000 USD prize was awarded to Scarlett Rocourt, Founder of hair brand Wonder Curl. Wonder Curl was born with a mission to make the perfect hair gel for all hair types.

“Being the winner of the GlossWire pitch competition came at the perfect time since I am in the beginning stage of elevating my business into the prestige market,” stated Rocourt. “The mentoring alone will give me the guidance I need as a solopreneur as I navigate through the beauty industry.”

“It was an honor to participate as a judge in the GlossPitch competition. I was extremely impressed and inspired by all of the founders and loved hearing how their unique experiences shape the products they create,” stated Susanah Zeffiro, Client Partner, Beauty for Spotify. “I look forward to advising Wonder Curl on strategies to best utilize Spotify to grow brand affinity and sensorially connect with customers via Audio.”

The 2nd place $1,500 cash prize was awarded to Lynn Power, Founder of skincare brand Masami. Masami is a game-changer in the haircare space as well, creating products using Japanese ocean botanical Mekabu to create vegan cruelty free weightless hair. The 3rd place $1,000 USD cash prize was awarded to Anne Oliver, Founder of House of M. House of M is a woman owned and AAIP brand using a key ingredient in the skincare space, saffron.

“From the moment I got to know Scarlett Rocourt, I was captivated by her energy and enigmatic personality. She is hyper-focused and driven to find solutions for curly hair and that is wholly aligned with our mission,” stated GlossWire Head of Brand Strategy Samantha Yanks. “As we look at our trailblazing and diverse brands here at GlossWire, it has been extraordinary to get to know their ethos and how aligned they are with it being essential to educate our consumers.
