UNIONDALE, N.Y. , July 27 /Businesswire/ - LIBERTY Dental Plan of New York (LIBERTY), an affiliate of LIBERTY Dental Plan Corporation, proudly announced the award of 12 post-secondary scholarships. The scholarships are given to graduates of Union Square Academy for Health Sciences in Manhattan, New York. The goal is to support students further their post-secondary education in health-related fields, with a focus on Black and Latino graduates. The scholarships are part of a collaborative partnership with the Public Education Needs Civic Involvement in Learning (PENCIL) as a Sponsoring Business Partner for the 2021-2022 school year.

As a Sponsoring Business Partner, LIBERTY provides mentoring, internships and immersive experiences to support student success.

Anne Weeks, President of LIBERTY Dental Plan of New York, released a statement: “As a dental benefits administrator, LIBERTY believes in empowering our community. We are so proud to invest in the future of these young leaders and we hope their success will one day contribute to improving the oral health of people in their respective communities.”

This past school year, the scholarship awardees participated in a dental research study to address dental health for early childhood ages 2-4, adolescent dental hygiene and the impact of dental care on the geriatric population. On June 14th, with representatives of PENCIL and LIBERTY present, together with Union Square Academy staff, the students presented their research on their community-based projects to create awareness for the importance of dental care.
